Acid Jet Drilling
Buckman, Sr. U.S. patent 7,971,658 provides methods for acid jet drilling laterals in carbonate reservoirs. It is estimated that sixty to seventy percent of conventional oil and gas reservoirs are carbonate (limestone and dolomite). Hydrochloric acid is pumped through the jet bit, which enables enhancement of the rate of drilling of the limestone. To drill dolomitic limestone or dolomite, hotter acid is required. A method to mix the acid and base downhole to achieve hotter acid exiting the jet bit to drill dolomite is explained.
